Career as a Comedy Icon and Other Achievements
Chonda Pierce is one of RIAA's best-selling female comedians. Apart from her comedy, she excels as a television hostess and author. Her hilarious take on the common situations in life makes her so loved and presents them in a positive light.
Pierce had been afflicted by depression, a period that she calls her darkest. However, she had worked through it and often publicly talked about this difficult period in her comedy shows, giving her audience food for thought and inspiring them along the way.
Her movie is largely about her struggle to overcome depression as he coped with her mother's death, dealing with an alcoholic husband and his death, and her estrangement with her father, all within three years. The movie delves into the darkest years, and yet she managed to present it with humor and wit, hoping that it will inspire others to fight through their depression as well.
Pierce started her career working at the Opryland Theme Park in Nashville. She worked with Minnie Pearl, the "Grand Ole Opry" at the time. At that time, Pierce was told by her boss to try a different talent because he thought she was a terrible dancer. Not knowing what to do, she had learned three pages of jokes from "Grinders Switch" to keep her job. Later she went on to impersonate Minnie Pearl for six years.
It was at this time that, along with singing and dancing, Pierce slowly started falling in love with comedy as well. Eventually, she pursued comedy full-time and recorded "Second Row, Piano Side."
Pierce uses her intellect and humor for fabulous storytelling sessions that resonate deeply with the audience. You are missing out on something if you have not seen her live in action.
