LA Galaxy Games

LA Galaxy is a professional American soccer club located in the suburbs of Los Angeles California. The team is one of the original stars of Major League Soccer (MLS), founded in 1994 when the league first formed. They have long been known as one of the top teams in the league, with an excellent track record in competitions. To learn more about the team, keep reading.

When MLS set out to select their ten founding teams, Los Angeles was an obvious zone to target. With major sports leagues in several other popular sports, droves of eager fans, and a phenomenal entertainment industry, LA Galaxy was born. The team’s name is a clever nod to the Hollywood “stars” LA is known for around the world. From that first season, played in 1996, LA Galaxy showed others in MLS that they were a force of nature, winning the Western Conference and battling head-to-head for the MLS Cup. Although the team did not take home the win that year, it was an incredible start.

After years of strong playing on the field, the mid-2000s breathed new life into the team as David Beckham from Real Madrid was signed. He arrival signaled a country-wide expansion of soccer as Entertainment and Sports Programming Network (ESPN) covered soccer in unprecedent ways, increasing the number of cameras that covered games and amplifying advertising coverage with greater vigor. Nevertheless, LA Galaxy is a stunning team as a whole, knocking down opponents left and right. Some of their abundant awards include five MLS cup titles, four Supporters’ Shield titles, two U.S. Open Cup titles, nine Western Conference Playoff titles, and eight Western Conference Regular Season titles.

LA Galaxy has a number of rivals. Many of these rivalries are with teams who compete alongside them in MLS’ Western Conference. In-state competitor the San Jose Earthquakes are one such rival. Even closer to home, the newly founded Los Angeles FC are a fierce rival. Because LA Galaxy is notoriously one of the top teams in MLS, they attract rivals from other high-performing teams in North America, such as D.C. United.

Since the team’s start, they have held home matches at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Titan Stadium in Fullerton and now Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson. Dignity Health Sports Park was formerly Home Depot Center and StubHub Center. The sports complex, built in 2003, is located on the campus of California State University, Dominguez Hills. For soccer, the stadium holds 27,000 or more people. To see one of LA Galaxy’s home matches, purchase tickets to Dignity Health Sports Park and watch the action unfold.
