Philippe Laprise
Philippe Laprise is a comedian who hails from Quebec. Born on 12th May 1976, his debut on stage took place through improv. Having started his improv gigs in high school, he continued doing so at Cégep de Jonquière.
The years between 2005 to 2009 saw him improvising in numerous leagues, such as the Gaielaxie and La lemonade.
He touched the peak of improvisation when he was given the position of the captain of the Saguenay team, which happened at Just for Laughs' National improvisation in 2017.
Career and Achievements
Laprise moved to Montreal to finish his education at the National School of Humor, from where he got his degree in 2002.
Laprise rose high through the ranks quite quickly amidst the comedy industry in Quebec, leading him to win multiple awards. Eventually, he appeared at numerous comedy festivals, such as the Grand Rire, the Just for Laughs festival, and the gala ComédiHa! Festival.
He won the Just for Laughs talent contest at the Abitibi-Témiscamingue Comedy Festival in the year 2006. Laprise was given the revelation title at the Just for Laughs festival in 2007 and also got the 'discovery of the year' title at the Gala Les Olivier in 2009.
I can now die, which was the name of his first solo show, which came out in 2009. The tour was directed by Dominic Anctil, causing Laprise to travel around for three years. Sexiest Ever, which was the name of his second one-man show, became extremely popular among his fans.
Once he had sold 100,000 tickets, he was given a platinum ticket in 2016. Precisely 150,000 tickets got sold. Sexier Than Ever got nominated in the category of ‘show of the year - humor’ at the Gala de l'ADISQ in 2015.
He then got nominated in the category of 'show of the year' at the Les Oliver Gala in 2016. Between 2017 to 2018, Laprise was a part of presenting a show that was almost like a run-in.
His solo show titled Je m'en Occupie won hearts all over Quebec in the year 2018. Laprise has acted in shows for Just for Laughs, VrakTV, and Canal D, to name a few. He has been a host for Canal D, VrakTV, MATV, and RDS.
As a columnist, he has contributed to Radio- Canada, VTélé, and TQS. The character that earned him a lot of fame and love of Phil in VRAK la vie.
