George Lopez
George Edward Lopez is a famous American stand-up comedian and actor of Mexican descent. Lopez starred in his sitcom, which was telecast on ABC. He mostly speaks about people and their lifestyles from different races and ethnicities, including the Mexicans. He deals with the trials and tribulations in their life but in a funny way. Lopez has received many accolades for his contributions to the Latino community.
Lopez had a difficult childhood since he was abandoned by his parents at a very early age and was brought up by his grandparents instead. However, he never let that deter him and used it to inspire him.
Rise as Comic TV Star and Recognition
Like most other comedians, George Lopez also started his career with stand-up comedy. He slowly started gaining fame for his unique insight into the Hispanic community and for bringing them to the forefront. Sandra Bullock approached him to produce a show that featured American Hispanics, and ABC picked it up to bring more diversity to their channel.
He went on to become a prominent Hispanic face on American TV, which few others have managed to do before him. He went on to star in the eponymous George Lopez, an American situational comedy that ran for almost six years.
Lopez also did commentary for the hit HBO sports show, “Inside the NFL." It cast an inside look at the NFL teams and gave the fans a glimpse of what happens behind the scenes. He also made his foray into acting.
He was also the guest star in Reno 911! and played the role of mayor. He also hosted a late-night talk show on TBS, Lopez Tonight. Later, Lopez starred in another of his sitcoms, Saint George, on the FX channel.
He also featured in a straight-to-series order for Lopez- a semi-autobiographical sitcom. A new series, Lopez vs. Lopez, in which he stars with his daughter, Mayan, was also picked up by NBC.
He has been the recipient of the Latino Spirit Award, the Imagen Vision award, and the National Hispanic Media Coalition Impact Award. He was also named among the Top 25 Hispanics in America by Time Magazine.
George Lopez also performs his stand-up shows from time to time, and watching him live is a great experience. His charisma and personality are magnetic, to say the least.
