San Francisco 49ers Games
The “San Francisco 49ers” is a professional American football team situated in San Francisco Bay Area. The team is part of the West Division, which plays in the National Football Conference (NFC) of the National Football League (NFL). The history of the team began in the year 1946 being one of the charter members in the All-America Football Conference (AAFC). In 1949, the team officially joined the National Football League (NFL) at the time of the AFL-NFL merger.
The team’s original home is the Kezar Stadium, located in the Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. Through decades of playing, the team also played their home games at the Candlestick Park based in San Francisco for over 42 years. In the 2014 NFL season, they moved their home games at the Levi’s Stadium, situated in Santa Clara, California.
In their history of playing in the league, the team is recognized as one of the NFL’s greatest dynasties. In fact, the team compiled an outstanding record by achieving 5 Super Bowl championships in the span of 14 years. Most of the team’s success in their Super Bowl games were led by the Hall of Famers Jerry Rice, Steve Young, Joe Montana and Ronnie Lott, including the team’s head coach Bill Walsh.
During the 1980s and 1990s, the team had frequent winning streaks of 104 and 113 wins in the NFL’s regular seasons.
At the time of the California Gold Rush in the year 1849, a group of gold prospectors arrived in the Northern California. The name ’49ers’ was proposed in order to reflect the voyagers who had rushed the West for the gold. The team is using the name ‘San Francisco 49ers’ since their founding until now. The team is the oldest major professional sports team based in California and they are legally registered as the San Francisco Forty Niners, Ltd.
